University of Patras, Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation

Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS) is oriented on research and development in cutting edge scientific and technological fields. LMS is involved in a number of research projects funded by the CEU and European industrial partners. Particular emphasis is given to the co-operation with the European industry as well as with a number of “hi-tech” firms. LMS is under the direction and technical coordination of Professor George Chryssolouris. It currently employs approximately 70 researchers organized in three different groups: a) Manufacturing Processes Modelling and Energy Efficiency, b) Robots, Automation and Virtual Reality in Manufacturing and c) Manufacturing Systems.

Involvement in MERGING

Under MERGING, LMS will lead the activities of developing the SoA based MERGING work cell supervision and control platform, leading WP6 while supporting the software integration activities under WP7. In addition, LMS will support the activities in AI based robot programming under WP4 as well as the perception activities for human robot interaction under WP5. Moreover, LMS will set up and integrate at its premises the 1st version of VDL demonstrator before the latter’s set up at VDL premises. Last but not least, LMS will contribute on the dissemination and communication activities during and after the project
